The way you think and what you think about is very important.
It's an important skill - to observe yourself thinking, it separates you from huge streams of thought. The benefit is that you can start to control the tone of your thinking, so you're not pushed by your own thoughts into a place you don't want to go.
Thinking switches on emotions & biochemistry (hormones: endorphins, oxytocin, adrenaline). The tone of your thinking pushes your emotions up and down; if you want to stay stable, stress-free, and happy you need to learn to control the tone.
It's very important to learn to separate yourself away from your thinking because it gives you the ability to stay relaxed, calm, and to observe what is really going on at the moment. You want to be able to observe what's going on in your world, what your future might be, or others (observe what the truth of the moment is).
We are in a continuum of activity, of Life Happening To Us...the day begins...the movie starts rolling...it's about maximizing your enjoyment, the quality of life. It's about expanding our ability to enjoy our life, enjoying EVERY Moment of your life because life goes by so quickly.
Pull back & notice what the tone of your thinking & feeling is in every moment; to create the habit of self-observation and to notice stress levels.
Powerful Tip - put FULL attention on your breath - 100%, watch it coming in, watch it going out. Do it as long as it takes to slow your mind down. Notice that you are the observer watching your breath, and making the decision to watch your breath.
Do it regularly, 10 min a day, the more you do it, the better it is, and you can do it instantaneously whenever you feel any stress. There is an enormous benefit to taking control of the tone of your thinking.
When you notice you're starting to react negatively or have a pessimistic attitude to projects, to yourself, your future, or someone outside of yourself, it is a major indicator that your thoughts are out of control, that your thoughts are pushing your emotions around.
Throughout your day take a moment to stop whatever you're doing and get back in control. You'll notice the more often and longer you keep your attention on your breath a strange thing begins to happen: there's a switch that comes on and it starts to build a feeling of happiness.
